On the farm chores are a part of every day, even Resurrection Sunday. So on this Easter morning I headed out to take care of the animals. For some reason I decided to cut through the yard with the golf cart, doesn’t seem like much unless you know I’m weird about not liking the tracks in the bright green springtime grass.
Just before reaching the drive I felt like I should look back. Doing so I saw the cross that has stood by one of the live oaks in the yard since we first moved in, it greets guests as they pull up to the house. A gift from the builder’s wife who got it from a traveling preacher that passed them out in our area. What I saw was the vertical board that said Lord in its place anchored to the ground, but the horizontal board that says Jesus Is was lying on the ground.
Stopping the cart I walked back to where it lay. My mind is always working, processing & thinking so in that short distance to the tree the first thought that crossed my mind was, “Yeah, that’s right, He is Risen, He no longer hangs from a cross or rests in a grave.”. But then as I reached down to pick up the fallen board to put it back in its place as a sign of our faith and welcome to visitors, I had a whole different thought. There lying right next to the board was a small snake, a foot long brown serpent that slithered away as I grasped the board.
Folks, I’m not superstitious, but if you like Jeff Foxworthy, there’s your sign!
Replacing the fallen board and putting the cross back in its spot by the tree I had a couple of moments to reflect on what happened. Here’s what I believe the Lord was showing me. It’s easy to keep Me in the front of your mind as Easter approaches and you remember the sacrifice of My Son Jesus on the cross. But don’t let your guard down, the thief still comes to steal, kill & destroy. He’s still right there waiting, just looking for an opportunity to slither in.
In the times we are living in right now, I believe it was a very important message. Please keep the message of the cross close to your heart each day & realize the sacrifice made for our freedom from sin.
We look forward to this season of social distancing being over & being able to celebrate and share the farm with y'all.
God bless!
